Quick-Tip: IBM Champion nomination is open - but be warned!

Wednesday, October 17, 2018 7:14 PM UTC
It’s the time of the year again (for about one or two weeks now I guess?) to nominate an IBM Champion. I just learned that the nomination time is extended to November 1 - this is one extra week. So please nominate YOUR IBM Champions here  As it was for the last years, the form has changed - again. Even worse: it has a timeout which is very short. So best practice is op [...]

Quick-Tip: Monitoring Domino V10 with New Relic

Wednesday, October 17, 2018 5:11 PM UTC
One feature that was mentioned on slides months ago but wasn’t as prominent as it should be is the built-in monitoring feature of your server with a service called „New Relic“. This is by far the most simple setup I’ve ever experienced during my 18-year lasting Domino career. It just takes a few simple steps to start: Create an account at www.newrelic.com - it&rsqu [...]

One week V10 - a brief summary

Tuesday, October 16, 2018 8:13 PM UTC
The first week with the final V10 release is almost done. There was a lot of testing going on in the community and I also did some deep dive into some of the new features. I wasn’t that interested in those new admin stuff like streaming replication, auto healing or scheduled mail. I even don’t have a test environment for that to play around with that. I was interested in the Domino Des [...]

Domino 10 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Monday, October 15, 2018 7:26 PM UTC
This is not a supported OS, I know. However, I always installed Domino on Ubuntu and it worked like a charm - for development machines, my homepage, test servers - no problems at all. With V10 things changed a bit. When using Ubuntu locally I always used the latest server OS which now is 18.04 LTS - and it worked without any problem. I installed all the betas on it directly without anything add [...]

First dive into Domino and Node.js

Wednesday, October 10, 2018 10:52 PM UTC
Man, what a 36 hours! We had the V10 product launch, well celebrated yesterday in Frankfurt (Germany) and perfectly streamed for all us home-bound spectators. Thanks for that, it was very entertaining! This day’s morning I downloaded all available packages of V10 which included the server for Windows and Linux and the clients for Windows only - no Mac client at the moment. The IBM AppD [...]

Fixing problems with IBM Notes on macOS Mojave

Sunday, October 7, 2018 1:59 PM UTC
I am using Mojave for some months now. I never used the Notes client on macOS but since there is a special interim fix for Mojave I thought I give it a try. The installation process is usually simple: install the client package install the fix right afterwards (without trying to start the client for the first time) Please also read this blog post fro [...]

Getting started with the new Domino Query Language (DQL)

Wednesday, August 22, 2018 10:54 AM UTC
During the beta 2 period of Domino V10 I dabbled around with DQL for the first time. I already saw what you can do in a video and screenshots that were made during the HCL factory tour. The first throw of this new feature is not complete of course, you currently cannot utilize it in your coding in LotusScript or Java. This is planned for the final release which ships after October 9, 2018. [...]

I hereby present to you your earworm of the day - you instantly had this song from the 80s in your mind when you read the headline, didn't you? The countdown is to the final and first throw of Domino and Notes version 10 that will be launched at the IBM Think event in Frankfurt/Main, Germany on October 9. https://www.ibm.com/collaboration/ibm-domino In addition HCL published the beta [...]

Finally - Airpods

Friday, August 17, 2018 12:21 AM UTC
I am late to the party but I waited until I found a bargain to buy the missing part in my Apple mobile ecosystem - the Airpods. So this is my resume for this very expensive headphone set. The pods arrived in a very wealthy case, the unboxing experience is like with any other Apple products. It’s like unwrapping a Macbook but sooo tiny. The case is shiny and it feels also very well crafted [...]

Quick-Tip: Solving issues with Feature Pack Installers on Linux

Wednesday, July 25, 2018 10:40 AM UTC
Due to the fact that I am forced to upgrade one of the servers to FP8+ (FP10 in this case) I stumbled upon a problem with the install script (btw: this is still declared as from 1999…) I already knew the issue with unsupported Linux systems like Ubuntu server (the Perl problem described here) and how to fix them. This one was new. The first problem after extracting [...]
