Wind of (ex)change
Friday, June 22, 2018 9:03 PM UTC
Since this upcoming weekend our company is using the full throttle of O365 including mail. We are using O365 stuff for quite a while now (Office stuff, Teams). As an IBM business partner we used mail with Domino on premises for years and then IBM smartcloud mail for another years aka IBM Verse.
I can’t say that I was a big fan of Verse though I really liked the clean look of it. But the l [...]
Outlook to Notes/Domino V10 and VoP
Thursday, May 24, 2018 8:54 PM UTC
Thanks to IBM and HCL our community received updates today, fresh right from the latest and greatest user group conference called Engage. I wasn’t able to attend this year - which I strongly regret. Today’s webcast somehow brought some insights about the upcoming release of IBM Notes and Verse - and I am slightly encouraged - but not full yet. Anyway, the speakers Gabriella Davis, Ram [...]
iPhone X after 6 months
Wednesday, May 2, 2018 11:02 PM UTC
There are a lot of reviews of this epic phone on Youtube, I saw them almost all. I have read a lot of reviews on other channels.
Since I am using this device I can at least join the conversations.
I got mine on November 16, 2017, so it is almost 6 months that I am using it on a daily basis.
Face ID vs Touch ID
This was most surprising for me: I got used to the new unlock mechanism [...]
Windows April Update 1803 - so what?
Monday, April 30, 2018 10:57 PM UTC
Today the 1803 OTA update was enrolled. MS had to publish it to still call it „the April update“. To be honest: I don’t give a shit about it. The new features do not impress me at all. VOWE created a summary of them, so I won’t write about it. For me they are all totally unimportant.
I am completely uninterested about everything Windows related - until it [...]
Stuff that still works: the MK2
Monday, April 9, 2018 11:49 PM UTC
I have a lot of electronics, I love electronic devices though sometimes they seem to hate me.
I have a device that I love over all the others and I use it for 29 years now though not on a regular daily base: my turntable.
Turntables experienced a renaissance during the past decade. People like the real feel of putting vinyl on a real machine instead of just dragging mp3 files to a software. [...]
Philips Hue Dimmer Switch & Apple HomeKit issues
Monday, April 9, 2018 12:03 AM UTC
Man, SmartHome really can be rocket science, especially if you have devices from different vendors. I always try to buy HomeKit compatible devices (except for some stupid smart sockets that I don’t need to control manually) as I want to have them all available in a single app. I know, there are some options with other third party apps and servers but I really got used to HomeKit - though it [...]
Quick-Tip: Getting Rules to Work in IBM Verse #ibmchampion
Wednesday, March 21, 2018 2:46 PM UTC
One thing that bugged me for a long time since we migrated to IBM Verse SmartCloud was that my mailrules weren't working anymore. Though I checked and re-saved the rules via the Notes client (on the replica of the SmartCloud mail NSF) the rules did not work.
I just had some simple rules that moved mails away from the inbox under certain conditions (subject, sender etc.)
As Verse itself [...]
Quick Tip: „Design replace failed: cannot add role“ #ibmchampion
Tuesday, March 13, 2018 11:33 AM UTC
This is basically for me to remember and to find it again once I stumble upon this message again.
Sometimes you will get this error message when trying to refresh or replace the design of a database using a template. If so, please check if the template comes with a predefined ACL, especially roles. If the database that you want to update does not have all the roles in it’s ACL this me [...]
Make Domino Great Again!
Wednesday, February 28, 2018 7:49 PM UTC
IBM and HCL did their first webcast about the future of Domino V10. Yes, a real product upgrade and not another Feature Pack. This was a publicly announced event so I guess I am fine to post about details - and there were a lot of them!
The webcast with 1500+ 1900+ attendees (!) was hosted by some key people of the current collaboration construct announced in October last year:
Bob Schult [...]
Fixing HomeKit issue after update
Monday, January 29, 2018 7:18 PM UTC
After the latest iOS 11 update I experienced a problem with HomeKit remote access via the Apple TV. I was wasn’t able to get access to my devices outside the local wifi i.e. LTE/mobile network.
The solution was simple: update also to the latest tvOS, then goto Settings, Account, iCloud, HomeKit. Click on the option so that it displays „Disconnected“.
Open the HomeKit settin [...]
