About Champions, Jams and THINK #domino2025 #ibmchampion
Wednesday, January 17, 2018 7:09 PM UTC
I am late to the party to thank IBM and all those who nominated me for IBM Champion 2018 during the last months. It worked out well, so here I am proud and humbled again for still being a part of this amazing bunch of nerds and friends - old and new.
One of the numerous benefits of being an IBM Champion is that I can give something back to you, the users, the customers, the contributors [...]
The boon and bane of updates
Monday, January 15, 2018 11:00 PM UTC
I observe a phenomenon for several years. Software is getting more powerful, more feature-enriched but also more defective. It’s seems to be a natural thing that systems get screwed at some point the more complex they get.
Sometimes I wish vendors would keep a certain state of a software that runs nearly perfectly - and freeze it forever.
I’ll give you some examples:
Ubuntu Li [...]
No cables, baby - almost
Sunday, January 14, 2018 8:11 PM UTC
Using a device that supports wireless charging turns out to be very handy. No cables on the desktop anymore, no scratches around the connector that may reduce the device’s value.
Today I want to give a short overview of three devices I am using for wireless charging - all from completely different price ranges. Spoiler: none of them are officially recommended by Apple for the iPhone X. Al [...]
2018 Windows Rant
Friday, January 5, 2018 2:08 AM UTC
You know me, I fucking hate MS Windows to the bone. I never liked it but since I am using REAL operating systems like Linux (1999) and MacOS (2015) my bloody hatered even increased. MS is just not able to provide a system that „operates“ a computer, it’s just a lot of useless crap that crashes and behaves completely different from what the user expects. Ok, they have graphics and [...]
How to solve a search issue in iOS
Wednesday, December 27, 2017 3:09 AM UTC
Since I am using the iPhone X I noticed that the search in the settings didn't work anymore. I guess it was working until I restored the latest backup from iCloud when I was setting up the device. I am also using the Beta versions of iOS 11 for quite a long time so that would have been also the reason for it.
Whatever it caused, it was annoying (some other issues still exist though...) [...]
What a beauty!
Monday, November 20, 2017 11:13 PM UTC
After 72 hours I try to write down my experiences with the iPhone X. By the way: I call it iPhone Ten and not X. Disclaimer: this is not a comprehensive review but my personal thoughts.
Coming from a 6s I already enjoyed the benefits of iOS and the whole Apple ecosystem. Using iOS 11 on all my devices already brought me the idea of what to expect from the iPhone X. You can see that version 11 w [...]
Spaß mit O2, Teil 2
Wednesday, November 8, 2017 5:30 PM UTC
Dort bes [...]
Narcissistic? Not at all!
Monday, November 6, 2017 4:57 PM UTC
Y’all know it nomination time - until November 13, not even a full week left. In the IBM Champions Slack channel one post from our Champion wrangler Libby stroke me today which definitely encourages me to nominate myself - though I didn’t plan to do so:
"Current Champions will need to submit a renomination form for themselves. Nominations from the community are GREAT but DO NOT [...]
First aid on my iMac
Tuesday, October 31, 2017 12:32 PM UTC
Some weeks ago I encountered the 1TB HDD in my iMac died a slow death. First I couldn't access the data anymore and then the disk was mounted and unounted once in a while. This resulted in a very annoying click sound every few minutes and it drove me crazy. Now, as I got the right tools for the job, I replaced the broken HDD with a spare 500GB SSD. This is how it worked out.
Google Home Mini - my first take
Sunday, October 29, 2017 3:15 PM UTC
I own two Amazon Echos, one in the office and one in the living room, and I use them regularly during the day. Though the Echos do not always understand what I am saying I am quite happy with what they offer. I mostly control my smart home devices with it and use timers. Very rarely I use the personal assistant features like telling the news or adding something to my calendar. Especia [...]
