Last week to say thanks

Sunday, October 25, 2020 at 6:09 PM UTC
With the vibe of CollabSphere 2020 Live next week, I want to remind you that it is still the time of the year to show your appreciation to people who delivered valuable contributions to your work life over the year. Whether it was a useful blogpost, an answer on the various channels where we discuss technical questions and issues or a live session at an event, whether it was a presence e [...]

We are speaking at Collabsphere 2020 Live

Friday, October 23, 2020 at 5:15 PM UTC
I am late to the party but I also wanted to make sure you do not miss the HCL community event next week, CollabSphere 2020 Live. Thanks to the damn pandemic this event also will be presented as an online virtual one which brings the benefit on the other hand, that me and my colleague are able to attend and even speak (Thursday, October 29)! Unlike the past years I am not involved [...]

Big things to comePost in german language / Artikel in deutscher Sprache

Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 12:39 PM UTC
We all love Domino but most of us developers hate Domino Designer. It's fat, it's slow, it's unreliable, it's based on ancient technology. On Monday this week I witnessed the future of app development - without a heavy IDE but somewhat "on Domino". I cannot provide further details but what I saw was impressive. A part of it was "Keep", a middleware that [...]

There are people around worth it

Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 9:06 PM UTC
It‘s the time of the year again to nominate a person from your bubble to receive the acknowledge that she or he deserves. No, I am not talking about voting for your next president or prime minister. It‘s much less of your responsibility I‘d like to challenge you for. It‘s „just“ about nominating your yearly HCL Ambassadors. This will be the 3rd year when peop [...]

iOS/iPadOS 14 - Please fix the Shortcuts

Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 10:19 PM UTC
With version 14 of iOS/iPadOS Apple introduced new widgets, also for the Home widget area. I can't say I like the new styled widgets a lot but what I can say is that they waste a lot of space and therefor you don't see as much as before: I used to see all of the shortcuts I selected for the widget in the shortcuts app, but they disappeared in the new one - with no reason at all. App [...]

The Thunderbolt Dilemma with current MacBooks

Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 12:29 PM UTC
In this post I want to describe my experiences with my MacBook Pro 16" from 2019 and the struggles with the Thunderbolt ports using various external peripherals. The story begins in December 2019 when I got my first work machine that wasn't a Thinkpad/PC based laptop in almost 20 years of working with IBM/HCL Notes and Domino. I wanted a MacBook for my next work device as I was already [...]

Quick-Tip: see who is invited in MS Outlook

Monday, June 29, 2020 at 10:49 AM UTC
One thing that annoys me from the beginning of my work with MS Outlook is that I don't see who was invited when I receive an invitation. Outlook does not show this useful information by default just like HCL Notes for example. At this point (amongst many others) I really miss Notes... Anyway, I have to use Outlook. I accidentally found the "solution": open the invitation (regardle [...]

HCL removed Bluemix capabilities from Extlib in 11.0.1

Friday, June 19, 2020 at 8:58 PM UTC
I recently upgraded a server from 11.0.0 to 11.0.1. One of the apps utilized my DAO bean I created a while back which was able to automatically manage to access the underlaying database depending on if it runs on premises or on IBM Bluemix (now known as IBM Cloud). After the upgrade this app threw errors that some Java classes are unknown. javax.servlet.ServletE [...]

MIMEHeader vs SendTo

Friday, May 8, 2020 at 1:50 PM UTC
Today I encountered a strange behavior when sending mails and using different ways to define the recipient. The first example defines the recipient by adding the "To" header to the MIME root: MIMEEntity emailRoot = emailDocument.createMIMEEntity("Body"); MIMEHeader emailHeader = emailRoot.createHeader("To"); emailHeader.addValText("Oliver Busse/We4IT" [...]

What a ride!

Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 10:26 PM UTC
Today marks the 5th anniversary working for We4IT. This doesn’t seem to be a long time but, holy smokes, what happened during this period is freaking awesome. This was the beginning of me working entirely from home - currently a big deal for most of us but not for me, I am used to it - and I really like it. It has so many advantages and there are no signs of isolation when you use th [...]
